This is the reference section of the Rights of Way site. Information will shortly be added describing many aspects of rights of way research.
In the mean-time, if you are considering starting driving on 'green lanes' please read the first steps guide.
In order for several people to work together on Rights of Way issues, a system of identifying which route is being described has been devised. This system is described as the National Lane Reference.
A system of two letters followed by 6 or 8 numbers is used by the Ordnance Survey to describe a particular location. It is important that this system is understood by anyone wishing to make proper use of OS maps. An explanation of OS Grid References outlines of the letters and numbers system.
